New year Resolutions

...at least for fan-fiction writing.

2011 was a productive year for me in terms of writing- both fan-fiction and especially outside of it.

First of all through the sheer amount of writing I've done (including Complicated Detour), my writing style has become very different. I have come to like and appreciate writing completely in the Third Person PoV- AtO is not completely Third Person PoV because I kept spelling out Harry's thoughts- something that's not as abundant in chapter 13 (and I like it that way).

So that'll be a bit jarring to readers- which means editing of old chapters later (which I'm not completely keen about- I tried editing an older chapter and the word count dropped dramatically. It's not bad- it's just extra work.)

Speaking of AtO, this year I broke the 1000 review mark- which is all sorts of awesome. But at the same time rather guilt-inducing sometimes considering my slow writing/updating. For some reason, my guilt makes me work on the ending chapters of AtO- which doesn't make any sense to me what so ever.

I've also met some awesome people through ffnet- who're always eager to discuss all sorts of crazy ideas with me when I just need a good non-serious distraction.

Anyway, my plans for 2012 are:

1-I will edit and finish my incomplete stories. (because they deserve better than being hidden away on my laptop)

2- I will get more than 5 chapters of AtO written this year. (Anything more is great- anything less is just sad.)

3- I will write a fan-fiction story completely in French. (A one-shot/drabble sounds doable)

4- I will review other people's stories more often. (I follow so many awesome stories but I always shy away from reviewing.)

5- I will finish a 100-theme challenge.

And I think that's more than enough for fan-fiction resolutions. Do you guys have any resolutions to do with fanfiction/hobbies?

Polar.
P.S. Happy New Year! I hope you have a wonderful time in the next year filled with prosperity, fun and better things.

  1. Happy New Year!

That's a intresting list... I"ll be able to use that French/English dictionary I have!! It's two volumed and they both together are at least 6 inches thick. (Couple of months ago the local school district wanted to clear out it's textbook warehouse and opened it too the public and started giving away the older or unused books.  I sort of saw the advertisement in the newspaper and now my shelves are filled with writting texts, history books, wierd dictionaries, regular books they apparently didn't have room for in some of their libraries etc etc.... I sort of went overboard heheheh)

Resolution?  I haven't really decided on one.  I think eating healthy would be a good one for me.  The other day the only thing I ate was 4 fullsized candy canes and a very small piece of cake.  Not exactly the height of health.  I have nothing against veggies but they require preperation.  I've been subconciously going to the already made stuff and I have to kick the habit and start cooking again.  I really hate the aftermath of holidays, I never want to do anything.

Humm I've also been thinking about politics... over the Christmas holidays I ended up going to my Grandmother's annual party and some of my more annoying and uninformed relatives were talking politics and how they were going to vote for someone and for the life of me I couldn't remember why I wasn't going to vote for the guy they were talking about.  I think when I decide to not vote for someone EVER to at least have the reason written down (or typed) somewhere for refrence. (I actually read the local newspapers daily unlike some of my relatives).  Maybe keep alittle file on a regularly used zipdrive?

Like yourself, one of the things I want to make a resolution is writing but if I over do it I'll just dismiss the resolution as unrealistic and I'll be back at square one.  Maybe at least one paragraph of anything once a day?

I clearly need to think all that through a bit....

Anyways, good luck with your resolutions.  I'm actually looking forward to you accomplishing most of them!  8)

  2. Do you want me to check you language for your French fic? I love it when people try their hand at French, but it's sometimes weird to read some errors. Considering I'm very aware about my deficiencies in English I would be a very understanding reader...

I have no resolution for 2012. I'm kind of a "enjoy life as musch as possible, both doing a lot of things and getting some rest when I want" girl, so really I don't feel I have much to change.

Though I could deicde to review more too, but I often feel like I've got nothing to add (even for stories I liked) and I don't like to write pointlessly (even though some would say paying a compliment to an author is not pointless lol).

Speaking of reviews, I haven't told you yet how much I like "Complicated detour". It's a great laugh. I love how just one sentence from Grimmjow changed all the story... because Sasuke doesn't want to be weak lol !

    Happy New Year!

  3. Consider yourself hired as my future french editor- whenever I write my story. I know for a fact, that my french can be rather cringe-worthy. One of my more mortifying errors was using 'moucher' instead of 'marcher'- so I ended up with something along the lines of 'blow my nose with my leg'... ah, fun times in language class.

I think the main thing I want this year is not to procrastinate too much- I think it's time I became a little bit more firm with myself to do things- like write up reviews. AtO's review count made me realize that I really needed to be more appreciative of all the stories I follow obsessively. Especially the ones that update frequently with long chapters.

I'm glad that people are having fun with the sheer craziness that is Complicated Detour- especially since I've been so used to writing 'serious' and heavily-edited things.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I only have my mini French-English dictionary and a phrasebook- I haven't touched them in ages mostly because Google-translate spoils me. But I don't think my french will be too complicated- I certainly hope not, because that will definitely lead to all sorts of mistakes.

Thinking politics over christmas? Well, you have my respect for that. Many people, including me, are quite eager to push politics away. While I do keep up with news- there are times when I just shake my head and choose to ignore things- which is terrible but it's become the norm I think.

More writing- yeah, the goal of all writers.

I know that I can write daily if I use some free time. It may not be a lot- but it's better than nothing. Of course, even with that, my fiction writing is just slow - case in point my 'NaNoWriMo' challenge  that's stretching out.

Well, either way, I'm going to try my best to keep most of my resolutions.

Really, the second of disbelief at noticing the update panel had changed... :D and with a promise to update too! :)
Welcome back again, and I might even manage to review more than one thing - I'm intrigued by the thought of your two promised one shots. Also, I've finally figured out how to subscribe to your blog! So at the very least I can promise to read them relatively soon too.

  23. The best way to pick between two ideas is to see which chapter has the most to offer to the story plot-wise or development-wise. Or ask yourself "If I do post THIS chapter, where will it lead my characters and can I work with the result?"
If nothing works you could always post both and ask the fans which one they want. And if you liked a certain aspects of one of your chapters you could always add them to a later chapter, or make a drabble like what you do with AtO!

  29. Never got the notification for this comment. So apologies for the late reply. Also, thanks for the helpful advice. To be honest, I knew which version would be uploaded (the second/newer one). But obviously you can never get rid of your doubts. You always question yourself.

Both versions had the needed plot points- the differences came from items introduced, character interactions and the order of events. And it sort of came down to, which version do I like better?

As for your suggention of putting both versions up for a vote from readers. Oh, that is just asking for trouble. Lots of trouble.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughtful comment!

    ReplyDelete
  30. There are already 2(might add another) more deleted scenes that tie in to the version I've chosen (along with old deleted scene I uploaded before my hiatus). Nothing from the other version can be made into a deleted scene though- it wouldn't fit well.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hmm, the weather didn't allow for much outdoor activity. And I've never decorated an egg in my life. The few times we did 'egghunts' over the years was basically just going around finding chocolate or little gifts hidden away and then spending the rest of the time eating and watching movies.

Do you usually have egghunts for decorated eggs? Is that a thing that's done? For some reason now I'm imagining Harry trying to do that in Konoha- staying up late with Naruto decorating eggs, then hiding them... gah! those two can make anything adorable.

It can be very soothing and no matter what you do you always make something beautiful. Plus you can eat it. Third, you are such a dork man.

I woke up to a chaa~aapter! Ok so it was on the 11th but I accepted that four chapters ago. I still woke up to a great chapter. Nicely unpredictable with the usual unaware Harry... Or is he? Not sure what he really knows, what's intuition and what's weird luck. And Danzo again too! Is Harry getting used to his games now? He didn't end up as out of it this time... Oh and I want more Island hints pretty pretty please! Next chapter maybe? Or an omake? :D

Harry has been secretly adding various healing potions into different cakes because there was a flu bug or something and he wanted to help. There was a poisoning attempt and Harry force feeds the daimyo while he's choking. The guards throw him in prison as an accomplice and hint the assassin. Then the daimyo gets better, just in time to stop Harry's interrogation. Harry is so good natured about it and the daimyo impressed that he defeated the plague, he becomes one of the Daimyo's favoured - who is only baking cause that was what he was hired for.

    ReplyDelete
  49. DreamOfStoriesJune 06, 2014

To clarify there was ground up bezoar in the anti-poison cake Harry kept for emergencies ;)

    ReplyDelete
  50. DreamOfStoriesJune 06, 2014

And they discovered the potions in the cake ( that were keeping the family healthy despite the doctor's inept attempts at killing before he hired a professional) when they were checking Harry's other cakes.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Guest #309June 08, 2014

Damn you.... I started watching freaking cake shows because of this! Damn... Harry mixing stuff into his cake mixes to detect poisons, then going to the daimyo's ninja guards demanding they shop for more ingredients for him because his flour is turning everything green-sure sign of toxins! So one of the guards ends up on permanent shopping duty with Harry because everytime he finds anything suspicious, he dumps and takes it to the ninja and insists on replenishing his supplies immediately. The ninja are only half certain he only involves them in these minor poisoning investigations because he uses the escort to carry everything, otherwise they're pretty sure he'd just neutraizle the poisons and go on with his business. Basically Harry bossing ninja around and having them carry grocceries for him. That is where my mind went. Buff scary jounin level ninja being bossed about by a scrawny adorable teenager who won't take no shit from no one. And Naruti constantly worrying all the stronger people will somehow bully his defensless civilian niisan, and making a nuisance of himself.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Poison seems like the logical problem for Harry to solve in this job. I like the almost being interrogated idea. I can just imagine Harry being so fed up that no one is listening that he decides to break out without being concerned about the consequences. And just as he's about to blow the wall with a spell, the Daimyo intervenes and gets him out.

But healing potions in cakes would probably make more work for Harry. Because most potions have a horrible taste- so he'd probably have to figure out how to mask the flavour of the potions. And I wonder if he'd be so generous to share his pricey hard to make potions with the Daimyo's family.

If he wanted to make the cakes 'healthy', maybe he'd just use a few herb infusions. Herbs that are readily available. Of course this makes the medic-nins curious about his new/unique knowledge of herbs or something. But being favoured by the Daimyo has it's perks and he can't be bothered about his knowledge. Somewhere along the way, the Daimyo also tries to get Harry married to one of his daughters.

And then the foreign and not so foreign assassination attempts on Harry start because of the Daimyo's obvious favour. He gets ninja guards because the Daimyo is super worried of his baker/possible-son-in-law. The Akimichi volunteer to be his guards... and wow, how did I end up making Harry a possible future Daimyo just by thinking about potions in cakes. Though it would be hilarious if Harry was the Daimyo when Naruto is Hokage.

Seriously, the more I think about this, the crazier and crack-y this idea gets.

    ReplyDelete
  53. You haven't seen anything until you've watched Cake Boss. Even though I only saw bits and pieces of that show ages ago- I still remember how outrageous the cakes and the cake-makers were. I'd like to think harry gets a bit more daring with each cake he makes just like in that show.

I think the ninja would be way too curious about his poison detection methods- especially if the items turns green. Maybe they take samples of the things that he's thrown away. Unless he vanishes them with an evanesco- which would be the wizard sensible thing to do.

But I sort of like the idea of the ninja thinking he's creating this flawless poison detection method. Unless of course the green colour change is just a temporary thing?

Konoha would probably make each poison investigation a C-rank mission or higher. It's easy money for them and Harry also makes really nice cupcakes for the ninja. Plus it makes Konoha look good to the Damiyo- since they're so willing to investigate every single time and bring new items to the palace. The more they investigate, the more the Daimyo supports Tsunade's regime or something.

With all this plus the stuff I came up with due to DreamOfStories, I've realized just how dangerous this baker plot bunny is. But it's nice to imagine outrageous plot paths every once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  54. DreamOfStoriesJune 09, 2014

This is a dangerous plunny isn't it? I still like the bezoar powder cake but right now I'm also grinning at the thought of Wizards trying to explain it has to be the Daimyo (Harry) who comes and fights Tom the extremely evil missing nin to the Hokage in training (Naruto) before Tsunade has to step in... :D

Yeah so, when I was writing that comment, guess what was on? CAKE BOSS. I watched like 15 episodes from different seasons in one night. My god... the very idea of Harry being a baker and dealing with kitchen stuff and intrigue and ninja. (Watch this korean drama called jewel in the palace, it is historical KITCHEN/PALACE INTRIGUE AND DRAMA)

But if you're getting tons of ideas for this plot bunny GO FOR IT, cause this concept is freaking awesome! And cakes, and ninja, and politics and Harry in the middle of everything and wishing he wasn't... YES!! YESYESYESYES!!! *A* I want this so much, you have no idea.

Still watching youtube videos? What are you watching anyway? When I have free time, I usually watch cartoons or anime or dramas online somewhere. Like, steven universe, no game no life, adventure time, justice league, baka and test..... stuff I can enjoy without thinking too much. So what's your down time video watching like?

    ReplyDelete
  58. YouTube is still keeping me glued to my computer. I usually watch videogame playthroughs there. I don't play anymore- no consoles and most game requirements would just mess up/kill my laptop. But I still keep a ear out for interesting games and YouTube provides a way to satisfy my curiosity. Started with Bioshock Infinity and just escalated from there. The most recent game I watched was Outlast- a horror thing filled with so many wtf moments.

Other stuff I watch is cop/crime shows. It's fun to try and find the culprit before the show does. And I find that watching the drama/action/tense situations in these shows helps me write a little better.

As for anime, I haven't watched anything since Gintama ended. Nothing compares to the awesome ridiculousness of that show. I've prefer reading manga instead of watching anime- so much faster. But I'd make an exception if Gintama was renewed for another season.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It'll probably be Sakura who has to step in because Tsunade is off on vacation or something. No one takes Sakura seriously until she causes a mini-earthquake with her fist.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I remember that K-drama from ages ago- never finished it cos the last few episodes never worked no matter what. I read the synopsis though. Harry having to deal with that much political intrigue is crazy complicated. But it would so awesome. I'd probably go the crack route and make him solve everything with cake.

  63. Daimyo Harry and Hokage Naruto sounds like a blast - especially that bit about Wizards trying to convince everyone that Harry needs to fight an evil missing nin by himself. :D

Also Harry probably would be the sort of person who actually respects their wife (who's be raised in this life) and brings about more equality-by-example and puts into place child protection laws and eradicates wage-slavery prostitution in Fire Country (or, for that matter, the selling of children/anyone into prostitution).

    ReplyDelete
  65. Harry the zombie king... so many possibilities. He should meet up with Sasori and accidentally revive him while traveling. Do the zombie dolls get hungry?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well, at this point Sasori's puppet body is in Kankuro's possession. I doubt he'd be willing to hand that over and also highly doubt anyone wants any incarnation of crazy puppet guy alive.

Harry won't want any more 'followers' after this incident- he might even swear off the reparo spell around dolls/humans. He'll probably be busy trying to get rid of them only to fail as they follow him around like very protective guard dogs. It takes him a very long time to accept their presence.

As for the zombies getting hungry... well if they do, I suppose that they exist on a strict diet of dead rotting things- all the better to create even more toxic fumes.

    ReplyDelete
  67. If Harry ever came across a still living Sasori- then Harry wouldn't have any reason/chance to use the reparo spell. And Harry would become Sasori's newest puppet.

And if Harry came across the remnants of Sasori's body- the puppet form without the living core, then I see no reason why Sasori should be different from the other zombies. Without his living core, Sasori's body is just like all the other human puppets he made. The only thing that would set him apart would be the techniques he uses to obey Harry's commands.

Thoughts concluded in a sensible conclusion. Mostly. Sort of. Hmm...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Well, now I can't stop thinking aboutthis, so thanks. Harry walking around town shopping with a long string of undead puppets trailing behind him. Harry getting annoyed with Danzo always cornering him and giving longwinded threatening advice and the corpse puppets attack him and create a huge mess and ninja have to come fend off attacks while Harry tries to calm the puppets down. The HUGE freaking political hoohaw that happens when everyfixed dead puppet follows Harry out into the desert when he's forced to leave..... I WANT IT ALL!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Let me give you another scenario to think about... since there's magic in play, there's more potential for chaos with these zombies. let's say the Suna elders/shinobi are like- no, we can't let you leave with these things, they belong to us. Well Harry thinks and wishes that no one could see the zombies so that he wouldn't get into so much trouble. The zombies pretend to disintegrate into nothingness for the sake of the people around Harry but actually they just turn invisible.

Only Harry can see them unless he wishes otherwise. And just for the sake of convenience in this imaginary scenario let's say magic trumps all the dojutsu.

Now imagine Harry with his invisible zombie horde being bothered by Danzo. Harry wishes tons of misery on Danzo. Danzo proceeds to have a very bad day/week/however long it takes for the zombies to get rid of/annoy Danzo without actually killing him.

Of course the only downside of this invisible zombie horde is that Harry's fixing abilities will be considered a failure and the political ramification of that... so yeah, have fun thinking about this too. =D

I must admit that I'm more than a little behind on Naruto. I don't enjoy the big battles so much or the jumping around the groups - I find it a little hard to keep track without rereading bits.
I'm curious what will happen to Sasuke. I mean, ok, most civilians won't know he almost killed Naruto way back, or that he tried to kidnap the Raikage's brother - they'll know he left for Oro though and he didn't come back when the man was dead. The Shinobi would know all that and more though and even if he's pardoned with everything 'forgotten' (I suppose as a war hero that could be possible) there will still be trust issues. It wouldn't be a case of enemy of my enemy - it would be welcoming back a traitor and a deserter and Team 7 can't shield Sasuke completely from the fall out there even if it's just social fall out.
So I'm curious how Kishi will handle that.

  72. I think Kishi took an example from J.K. Rowling where endings are concerned, sadly |D

This......this is the funniest thing I've ever read. I'm actually choking down hysterical laughter right now because NARUTO is SERENITY and i can't help but think who ENDYMION is going to be. Oh please please please tell me who he is supposed to be in this reincarnation? (Not Sasuke hopefully, too cliche though it does have the potential hilarity factor).

Pffffft....HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I mean can't you just imagine? After all the shock and horror at the revelation passes, Naruto is still Naruto with a-very-disturbingly-accurate-Sexy-no-Jutsu? He's a PRINCESS! Kiba will never live this down.
And if poor Harry had dropped into this world, what would he do? Like seriously, i can't even imagone his face.....
HAHAHAHA Madara is Beryl! I agree, obsession with the moon makes him such a good candidate!
For Day 2, this was so much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  75. No way Sasuke is going to be Endymion. That's another thing I'm completely sure about but forgot to mention above. That being said, I don't have a concrete idea of who Endymion would be. I just want his reincarnation to be older than Naruto- doesn't matter if he's reincarnated as a male or a female. Though I am leaning more towards the idea of a female reincarnation.

Harry, I think, will just be confused by everything for a while before he just adapts and becomes his usual protective self because whatever Naruto was in a previous life, in this life he's Naruto's cousin. Or maybe that's a bit too sappy?

    ReplyDelete
  76. The ending could have been worse.

At least, that's what I like to tell myself.

  77. Silent ReaderDecember 04, 2014

Maybe a little sappy. But well sappy family fluff between Naruto and Harry is half the reason i love this story in the first place so i guess it all works out.

For one of your calender blog posts, maybe you could give your views on the last Naruto chapter? Or just Naruto as a whole if you need any ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Views on Naruto sounds like a nice thing to do.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I like it.
    How is Genma still alive?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Daw... Drooling Naruto is weirdly adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  81. This is kind of brilliant. I cannot get the image of Naruto in a dress out of my head though...
Also... This comes with the obligatory Harry in a dress, because AtO rules. A mommy/queen-Harry gives me the giggles.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think you've confused Genma with Hayate. =) Hayate is the exam procter who used to cough a lot and was killed by Baki.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Queen Harry? I'm intrigued...how would that even happen?

Ooh thanks for the recs. I haven't seen either of them and strong female leads are always awesome.
Any chance of expanding Anime recs and adding Manga recs? Have you read Toriko? Is it any good?

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'll definitely do some Manga rec posts. I haven't read Toriko yet- so can't comment. You'll have to tell me how it is if you read it.

A story in which the Trio is together is always one i would love to read. And Death being the main crossover character is even better, but i have to say i'm not sure what exactly is going on or how the Hallows, Trio, Death Lucifer, etc. are going to fit together with the little pieces you've given us.

If you have written 12,000+ words, maybe you could post it in your X-over dump? If you want to and still have the story, of course. I'm curious though, who were the sappy bits between?

    ReplyDelete
  87. When I started this story, I was intrigued and inspired by Celtic mythology. More specifically the Tuatha De Dannan- a race of gods/supernaturally gifted people that were driven to the Underworld by invaders. (That's an over-simplified explanation, so feel free to look it up to get a better idea if you like mythology).

For the story, I decided that since the race went to the Underworld, it meant they lived under Death's protection/reign. Then I decided that the trio were the last ones born to the race but they disappeared. Death was the only one who could leave the underworld so he searched for them but then he got sealed away for ages... so long story short, Death finds the trio after the Hallows identify them and tries to take them back to the Underworld. But as part-humans, they're keen to save Earth from the apocalypse and...

Actually, ignore all that. I just wanted to write Death as a scary but very grumpy old-fashioned grandpa to the trio. He doesn't like their friends (humans), feeds them too much junk food and just wants them to go home so that they don't get hurt in dangerous situations. That's it. That's the whole story.

  88. I don't really know why, but I found this weirdly cute.

  89. Oops... >.< I should have consulted Wikipedia first! Sorry.

Is it strange that i felt like cooing at the words " Nii-san is the only family I need"? Ahh, I'm really looking forward to the AtO moments where Naruto's and Harry's bond will be stronger.

Also, Harry smacking Madara. Hmm, i wonder if at times like these, the ninja around wonder if Harry just might be a little more insane than Naruto. Just a tad more. Actually, would consider writing a bit more for this? Naruto and Madara squabbling and Harry having enough? I wonder how freaked out everybody would be if Harry yells in caps-lock.

    ReplyDelete
  91. *Harry smacks Madara upside the head for stealing cookies*
*Every ninja in Konoha approves +10* Seriously, I can just see every ninja in the village going: "That guy has balls of steel." While Harry cluelessly proceeds to scold 'his brother' for ruining his appetite. (Even though he is secretly pleased, because liking sweet things is a clear sign of Madara being a good person.)
Also, I love that Madara and Naruto bicker, which is a sign of affection for both of them. (Madara after all argued with Hashirama and Naruto with Sasuke.)

    ReplyDelete
  92. In that case, I think one of the major topics of argument between Naruto and Madara would be about cake. "Who gets the last piece of cake? Why does he get such a big piece of cake? I want this flavour instead of that- so what if he doesn't like it?"

To which Harry does the smart thing. He pushes both their faces into cakes and leaves. Everyone in Konoha is torn between laughter and panic.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I do have some ideas for future bits in this scenario, so there will be an addition to this sometime in the future. Just can't say when.

It surprises me every time when somebody mentions Harry looking like an Uchiha. I get that he's pale but he has green eyes and he's unhealthily thin. Not to mention i always thought that Sasuke's features were drawn to make him a typical bishounen or something and Harry does not, at least in my mind, have scarily perfect features.
I think you might do a good subtle romance. You seem like an author who sneakily sneaks things in that the readers don't notice till much later.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Well, here Tobirama just considers him more Uchiha looking than Uzumaki looking- because most, if not all, of the Uzumaki at the time were red-heads.

Subtle romance... yeah, the sort where you have to look under a microscope to see it, I guess.=D

    ReplyDelete
  96. Can I just say I love this au? Because I really really really do.
I'm actually a lurker of yours but this has caused me to come out from behind the curtains.

    You're awesome.

ok. This sounds interesting. I suppose Kakashi will definitely starts off by trying to irritate Harry away. With Harry's personality, he would stick to his guts and complete the job. Will he be meeting Naruto when Naruto comes looking for Kakashi for extra lessons? Cos Kakashi is not the type to talk about anything of substance. And Harry will be able to interact with more ninjas if he doggedly follows Kakashi everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I think Kakashi is a case for full-blown psychiatrist... I doubt a life-coach is gonna cut it.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Maybe even a team of them? And a miracle worker.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Harry will meet more ninja if he sticks to Kakashi. When I do continue this, Naruto isn't going to have much of a role in this.

    ReplyDelete
  102. That is kind of sad, since it would mean that Harry loses sight of what he set out to accomplish.

Happy 2015 and good luck on your goals!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Heh, love it ~

    ReplyDelete
  105. If it helps, I always figured Kakashi for a troll. Instead of being the mentor-like figure that Shikaku is, he's more likely to --well I wouldn't say prank -- because that somehow reminds me of the twins-- more like maybe mislead you and take joy in your aggravation? Schadenfreudian sense of humor, almost? Of course, most of his trademark things (the lateness, the excuses, and so on) are rooted in tragic backstory so it's difficult to tell... he's like an onion man. He's tricky. Probably the best Kakashi I ever read was from "From His Excerpts" by Phoenyxx (which, ironically, is an hp x naruto fic)... it's probably the only story I felt that really nailed him.

Anyway, I like this a lot. All your hp x naruto crossovers are good and I especially love these small oneshot aus you post in your livejournal. Thanks for posting them and I hope to to see a new chapter of AtO soon.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Onion man Kakashi- yup, he's got too many layers and most of them are hidden deep inside. I do like the potential things that could occur with the troll Kakashi route. I'll see what happens when I try writing some more of him later on. I'll look into that story you mentioned as well- maybe it'll help.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Omg love this- I wonder though what Naruto would think of this whole business XD

    ReplyDelete
  108. Great concept! I would love to see this continue if you get the inspiration. Harry can make signature drinks for his regulars... Like Ramen flavored for Naruto.

Harry as a bartender really cracks me up for some reason, because i
can't help but think that if Tsunade tried his sake, there wouldn't be
any tip-toeing around being related or not. She'd drink half the bar and
announce Harry as her cousin with Naruto freaking out in the
    background.
Of course this also means that the council or Danzo
would be too scared to try anything with Harry, because you know what
happens to people who come between Tsunade and her sake (I heard she
once punched a man to Suna!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  111. Naruto would be stupidly proud of having a cousin who's barely a year older owning a business and making it thrive. He'll probably even learn real bartending skills because Harry doesn't have any drink mixing flair. Then a clone will take over the bartending while Harry uses his alcohol 'genius' to make all sorts of new concoctions.

Harry, who has given up trying to explain that he isn't an alcohol genius, just puts up with it because he gets to spend time with his new family. And it's kind of cool to see Naruto juggle bottles in the air and mix drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  112. He creates the bitterest sort of drink for Danzo(to match his soul)- who probably likes it a bit too much. And then Harry ends up in some sort of feud with the Wandering Tiger owner because Danzo prefers bitter alcohol to fancy tea nowadays… hmm, I think signature drinks would be a bad idea?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Kakashi would just ask for all the fruity flavours to mess with his team's expectations.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Drunk Tsunade would definitely cause a lot of mayhem just to keep her newest supply of alcohol safe. Harry might even try to sell the bar as soon as possible only for Tsunade to put her foot down... and cause massive property damage in Konoha making everyone plead with Harry to keep the bar open.

Gods, i just finish the story. Just how do you come up with this?? I have fun clicking through the story :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. I could totally see Naruto with the Tom Cruise (Cocktail) flair, doing
Ninja tricks on the bar, mixing drinks with the Rasengan, with Kurenai
& Anko naming new cocktails with ever more risque names...(Before
her pregnancy, anyway). Then they would try to persuade Harry to add a
nursery room. But you do realise, of course that Tsunade would
immediately issue Harry with a completely unwanted gambling licence, and
heavy him into using it.... Then possibly attaching a restaurant
license so that she 'can entertain foreign VIPs'. All property damage
would mysteriously repair itself overnight. Of course Danzo would try
to infiltrate the staff with spies (strange, nameless emotionally dead
zombie waiters) in the background as Naruto danced on the bar, while
Jiriyia did the same with busty young 'contacts' and lobbied for a
franchise and attached hot spring.... Of course, add in Konohamaru
sneaking in using the sexy technique to figure out what the fuss was
    about.
Harry would end up with a las Vegas size resort in six months
and have to run away back to his peaceful life with the Dark Lord....
I'm feeling a little hysterical, now.

That was pretty cool, it's been a long time since I read a choose your own adventure. The different endings were nice, and I like the idea of Harry's first and most annoying connection to shinobi being the Nara- no matter how Harry tries to get out of it. XD are you going to do more stories in this style? Or maybe add to earlier fic bits you've written? I seriously miss seeing your writing. ;__; Hope you're doing well, can't wait to see more updates from you, like, do you have any plans for the summer? Watching any new shows now that Naruto is finally over?

    ReplyDelete
  118. I wanted to try making an CYOA for the temple battle, but thankfully common sense prevailed and stopped me. I might try making another one in the future, just not sure what story to try out. I'm open to suggestions.

I never really watched Naruto (a few episodes here and there from certain arcs), I preferred reading the manga. But yeah, I've got a couple of shows lined up for my summer free time. Most of them are detective/crime TV shows.

I'm currently getting through 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries' and it's wonderful. Love the setting (wonderful costumes, etc) and the characters.

This is hilarious. I hope you keep drafts of the changes - it's fascinating to see how a story mutates. And super glad you're working on AtO! I miss the Uzumaki cousins and Shikaku (he's awesome).

Omg dude 85,000 words?!?! That's amazing and completely mind blowing! I really hope you've backed it up because the possible scenario is too horrible to put into words.
Shikaku isn't listening to you. How troublesome. Maybe Harry should say that to his face.
Team 7 mushy sceneeeees!!! I can't help but flail at the thought of that!
    I'm sorry I can't help you with Kakashi, I really am :(
You've mentioned this editing thing before. It's why the last two chapters were late right? You must have already considered getting a beta. Any particular reason you don't want one?
Rereading the list above makes me think that Shikaku really likes Harry, Danzo's hair comment must have helped. And he's also worried way too much over him. Underweight delicate civilian. Wrap him up in bubble wrap maybe?
Harry listen to Polar. She's stressed over Shikaku enough, you don't need to add to that.
Thank you for writing. You are a lovely person and I look forward to anything you give us.

    ReplyDelete
  121. When I say editing, I usually mean revising. My first drafts are always garbage. I need to move scenes, rewrite some bits or just plain delete stuff to have plot make sense. I've become all about trimming away the unnecessary bits.

I think Shikaku just wants a reason not to do work. And bothering Harry is the easiest way for him not to be stuck doing serious work. And Kakashi... I'm sure I'll figure him out eventually. There's always hope.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Yup, I'm definitely keeping the drafts. They're always good for laughs later on. I have some of my much older versions of AtO- where Harry somehow ended up with a job of boring admin work. I'm glad I didn't go that route.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I really hope you continue this!
