“You're a fisherman and you moved to
Konoha?” The shop owner asked with disbelief.
Harry nodded as he examined the fishing
rod in front of him. Sleek and smooth, it was fitted with strong
metal fittings and looked sturdy enough. “I wanted a challenge
instead of the usual.”
“Well, it'll certainly be a challenge
to earn anything here. People can catch their own fish. The ninja are
quick and don't even need a fishing rod.”
Harry shrugged. “That's okay.”
The old store owner stared at him. “You
know, wanting a challenge is all well and good but it won't pay the
bills.”
Harry nodded but said, “I'd like some
extra line.”
“And tackle?”
Considering he didn't actually know
what a tackle was, Harry shook his head.
The shop owner looked ready to launch
into some sort of lecture.
Harry said, “Can I fish at any
location or are places restricted.”
“As long as it's not on a clan's
property, it's okay to fish anywhere. Clans keep their compounds
secure, so you won't end up there anyway.” The shop owner looked at
him. “Anything else?”

Though it was still dark outside, Harry
steadied his new fishing rod over his shoulder as he followed Hedwig
through the empty streets of Konoha and into a more forested section
of Konoha until they stopped at a pond.
“Good job,” Harry said, glad at
Hedwig's choice. A relatively small pond like this would be a good
fishing spot for a beginner like him.
Even though he had put a lot of spells
on his fishing rod, Harry wasn't say no to making things even easier.
The best part of the location was that
there was no one around to see him when he eventually failed to catch
anything.
Harry took out the bait that he had
prepared- a small piece of meat wrapped in bacon- and secured to his
weighted hook with a sticking charm. He cast the line, watched his
hook sink down into the dark depths and turned up to look at the sky.
Soft pink crept up across the receding
darkness and lit up the sky. For his first sunrise in Konoha, it was
rather beautiful to witness first hand.
The fishing rod in his hand jolted and
Hedwig hooted a warning.
If he hadn't used a sticking charm on
it, he was sure it would have fallen out of his hands.
His fishing line stretched taut as
Harry pulled the rod up and tried to reel the line.
It didn't budge.
Even though Harry had put a spell on
the fishing line, he didn't want to take any chances. He lowered the
fishing rod, waiting till the line eventually slackened before trying
to reel it again.
Time stretched on as he repeated the
action multiple times, till his arms ached and throbbed, but
eventually a shadow of something came close to the surface.
Before Harry could catch a proper look,
it twisted in the water with a violent surge of energy and pulled.
Harry fell forward.
He would have fallen right into the
water if two hands hadn't grabbed into him.
Feeling a little more stead, Harry
added his magic to the battle. Even though he wanted to use a
Stupefy, Harry used an almost invisible Immobulus
spell.
Harry's aim struck true. The creature,
because it most certainly could not be a fish, froze and was much
easier to reel in.
As it came to the surface, Harry gaped.
“What the heck is that?”
“A fish,” a voice stated behind
him.
Harry stared, having forgotten that
someone had saved him being pulled in.
“Need help pulling it out of the
water?”
“Yes,” Harry replied. “Please.”
Clad in what he knew was the ninja uniform, the man walked past Harry, off the bank
and onto the water surface like it was solid ground. He squatted
down, put his gloved hands into the water till they were elbow deep
and pulled.
Harry could only gape as the man
carried a gigantic fish out of the water and put in on the ground
beside Harry.
The dark fish was longer than Harry and
was thicker than an old tree trunk. He gulped as he caught sight of
the sharp teeth in it's mouth as he tugged his hook out with a quick
summoning charm.
Harry looked up at the white haired
ninja who kept a hand on the fish's gigantic head. “You think
anyone will want to buy this?”
The ninja scratched his chin through
his face mask, his single eye eye thoughtful. “I might know
someone.”
